Annapurna Base Camp 10 Days Trek

10 Days

Annapurna base camp trek is a wonderful and joyful walk through diverse landscape and culture in Nepal. You can travel through the rich mountain panoramas, terraced fields, a wide variety of flora and fauna observing the Gurung communities and their unique culture. Mt. Annapurna (8091m) of Nepal is the 10th highest mountain in the world and the journey to its base camp (at 4130m/13549ft height) is one of the most exciting walks in Nepal. Moreover, you can make your destination via Mt. Machhapuchhare (Fishtail), a famous peak for its beauty.

The fascinating culture and stunning scenery are noticeable right away at the start of the trek in Pokhara, but it only gets better from there. A number of routes are available for the Annapurna Base Camp trek, including one through the famous Poon Hill viewpoint. However, we will take a more direct approach via Jhinu due to time constraints. Just two days of trekking via Dobhan and Deurali lead us up to the Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC) at around 4,000 meters altitude.

Our destination, the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) lies just a few hours further at 4,130m. You’ll surely have a unique experience here as despite being the base camp of the tenth highest peak in the world (Annapurna I – 8,091m), there are a number of lodges and hotels available. We’ll spend a whole night at the base camp, basking in the luxury of a lodge before beginning our return trek. As the further journey will mostly be descent, it should offer you an even better chance to explore the nature, scenery as well as culture of the Annapurna region. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek finally ends as you arrive in Pokhara and make the return journey back to Kathmandu.

Now, the well-groomed itinerary of the Annapurna Base Camp trekking package is joyful, enthusiastic and popular choice for all from a single traveler to hikers groups who wish to taste Nepal’s natural beauty, diverse culture and the acquitted support from brave Gorkhas and Sherpas.

Generally, Annapurna Base Camp Trek is an eleven-day itinerary though it can be extended and shortened as your need, budget, time and so on. Mountain Layers Treks and Expedition Pvt. Ltd. is proud to organize Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Difficulty

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a moderate difficulty trek that is an excellent option as base camp trekking for beginners. Prior trekking experience is always helpful but it is not an absolute necessity as most physically fit and healthy people can perform this trek without any issues. The highest point of the trek is reached at the Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m). The trekking hours average at around 5-6 hours trekking per day. Although we climb up to fairly high altitudes, altitude sickness is generally not an issue on this trek as we only stay at high elevation for 1-2 days max. Nonetheless, proper acclimatization is always welcome as part of the trekking plan and itinerary.

Best Season for Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is best performed during the Spring (March – May) and Autumn (September – November) seasons. These are the perfect periods to enjoy the amazing mixture of scenery, culture and adventure available on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. The clear skies with stunning mountain vistas as well as the pleasant weather and blooming nature will certainly leave a good impression on you.

Winter season is also a good choice for Annapurna Base Camp Trek, especially if you are looking to enjoy the crisp views of snowcapped peaks. Luckily, there is no need to cross any high passes for this trek but excessive snowfall can still be an issue sometimes. Monsoon trekking is possible, but we don’t generally recommend it due to the unpredictable weather and rainfall.

After you land at the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, you will be picked by our representative who will welcome you to Nepal and escort you to your hotel via private transport. Later in the evening, you can visit our office or relax at your hotel as you prefer.

Accommodation – Overnight at Hotel, Meals – Dinner

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek begins today with the drive or flight to Pokhara. The flight is the luxury option as you get to enjoy the bird’s eye views of Nepal and the Himalayas from the comfort of the airplane. Moreover, you will arrive at Pokhara in just half an hour and have the rest of the day in leisure. However, budget constraints can be an issue. So our standard option is the drive via Prithvi Highway on a suitable vehicle; tourist bus or jeep depending on group size. This is also the better way to get firsthand experience of the Nepali terrain and landscape before you begin the actual trekking. We will explore the lakeside and chill in the evening.

Accommodation – Overnight at Hotel, Meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After breakfast, we will have a 1-2 hour long drive to the trailhead at Nayapul. Here, the trail diverges to multiple routes, Ghorepani, Jhinu and more. As we are taking the direct route, our destination will be jhinu Danda. The ‘warm up’ trek involves making a few ascents and descents through the forested trails and crossing a suspension bridge before we finally reach Jhinu Danda. The natural hot springs here are always a refreshing experience for travelers and locals alike.

Accommodation – Overnight at Hotel, Meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

As we are slowly gaining altitude, the landscape will begin to open up and offer some pleasing views of mountain vistas today. We will first head to Chhomrong where we can already witness the amazing view of Annapurna South (7219m) and Machhapuchhare (6993m). From here, we will have to make an uphill ascent and climb through the stone staircase. Through the day, we will cross the Chhomrong River, pass Sinuwa, trek through the Modi Khola Valley and pass Bamboo to finally reach Dobhan.

Accommodation – Overnight at Hotel, Meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

The trek today will likely be the toughest but also the most important day of the trek. The trail passes leads you from Dobhan up to Hinku, and eventually to the village of Deurali. We will have a brief stop at Deurali for lunch where you can take some time to interact with the locals and also take a detailed look at the scenery around you. After a while, the journey resumes past Bagar and we will eventually reach over 4,000 meters at the Machhapuchhare Base Camp (MBC). A couple more hours of trekking, or rather ascending, from MBC finally leads us to our destination, the Annapurna Base Camp. Situated at 4,130m, the highest point of our trek, the Annapurna Base Camp offers stunning close up views of a panorama of peaks from Machhapuchhare and Gangapurna to Hiunchuli and Annapurna. We will take our time enjoying the magnificence of our surrounding and stay overnight at the lodge.

Accommodation – Overnight at Lodge, Meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After an early breakfast, we will head out for the longest day of trekking. Take a breath of relief though as most of the trekking today is descending, so you will likely have an easier time compared to the previous days.

Accommodation – Overnight at Lodge, Meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

With the hard part of our trek behind us, today’s journey is mostly an easy albeit long descent. Take your time to enjoy the stunning scenery on the trail today. Our overnight stay will be at a lodge in Tolka.

Accommodation – Overnight at Lodge, Meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Today will be the last day of trekking. Public transportation is available at various points of the trail. After we reach Phedi, we will also catch a bus for a half hour ride to Pokhara. In Pokhara, you will first check in to the hotel and then you can spend the rest of the day as you please. Most people prefer to simply relax at the hotel and unwind from the exhaustion of the trek with a warm shower and tasty meal. However, strolling around the lakeside and exploring a bit of Pokhara’s magic is also a good idea.

Accommodation – Overnight at Lodge, Meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Similar to before, we can get to Kathmandu either by road or flight. The classic option is to take a bus or a private vehicle and drive along the Prithivi highway. This route involves passing by Damauli, Muglin and Kurintar and arriving at Kathmandu in 5-6 hours. If you wish to go for a flight instead, then you’ll get to enjoy the magnificent aerial views of the Annapurna region. You’ll also arrive at Kathmandu in just half an hour, which means a full day to spend in the capital as you like. In the evening, we will have traditional Nepali cuisine as farewell dinner at a restaurant.

Accommodation – Overnight at Hotel, Meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

We hope your time with Mountain Layers Treks has been a good one. After breakfast, you can visit Thamel for some souvenir shopping or check out from the hotel if you have a flight scheduled. Our representative will assist you with reaching the airport a few hours before flight time. We wish you a safe flight home, farewell!

Meals – Breakfast

  1. It was a Real Delight to Share these Moments of Walking
    Jean-Jacques Larribal Saint-Clément-sur-Durance, France2nd October, 2019

"We started a trek in February 2012 with Buwan Maskey as a guide, and he took us safely to the Anapurna base camp with our son, who was barely 13 years old at the time. It was a real delight to share these moments of walking and to exchange on our different cultures! Our 2 porters were also very helpful and serious Buwan Maskey is a wonderful guide and he really knows the treks he frames.
