The real trek begins today as the trail leads you through pine forests, rivesr and valleys up to Namche. Precisely speaking, we will first tread north through the Benkar valley and cross the Dudh Khosi River to reach Monjo. Here, we will have our permit checked as we are entering the Sagarmatha National Park. Afterwards, we will resume our trek, pass Jorsale and eventually reach the hub of the region – Namche Bazaar.

Today is first rest/acclimatization day on the Everest Gokyo Cho La pass trek. Such rest day is important as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can cause serious problems, especially in later parts of the trek as we ascend higher. Taking proper measures right now will help stay on top of our game throughout the trek.

Namche Bazaar offers a lot of commodities, as well as other ways to spend your day without getting bored, from ATMs and cyber cafes to restaurants and bakeries. The generally popular options for this day in terms of hiking are Khumjung, Thame and Everest View Hotel. We can hike up to the first Everest View Point for an exciting view of Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m) Nuptse peak (7,855m), Ama Dablam (6,856m), Thamserku (6,608m), Khangtheka, Tauche Peak and many more.

Today, we will head out of Namche and pass Sanasa and Phortse Tenga on our way to Dole. On our trek, we will pass by and witness close views of Mount Khumbila (5,761m) or Khumbi Yul La, which translates to ‘God of Khumbu’. After around 6 to 7 hours of trekking, we will reach Dole, where we will have our overnight stay.

A short and easy day of trekking from Dole to Machhermo. We will have a brief stop at Luza before soon reaching our destination. We will relax and rest early to prepare for the tough trek tomorrow.

After heading out of Machhermo, we will first reach Pangka and reach the first of the Gokyo lakes soon after. We will pass the second Gokyo Lake as well and finally reach Gokyo village, a settlement situated right beside the third lake of Gokyo. Since we have leisure time in afternoon, we can trek further to explore the fourth and fifth lakes as well or simply rest and enjoy the views nearby. Rest early once again to start the trek early the next day.

Wake up early for one of the main highlights of this trek, the hike up to Gokyo Ri. We reach there in time for sunrise and get to enjoy one of the most breathtaking panoramas in all of the Himalayas. The view encompasses most of the Everest region including the pristine Gokyo lakes, Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and much more. After enjoying the view for a while and taking some pictures, we will slowly descend back down to our lodge. After the breakfast, we will have short trek up to Thangnak.

This will possibly be the hardest day of our trek as we will have to cross a high mountain pass known as Cho La (5,330m). It certainly won’t be easy to cross it but the view from the top point of the pass is honestly breathtaking. Gradually, we will make the journey down to Dzonglha where will rest after a long day of trekking.

Compared to the last few and next few days, this can even be considered a rest day as the trek is fairly short and easy. In just around 4 hours, we will arrive at Lobuche and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at preparing for the coming days.

Today is the one of the main days of the trek as it includes the hike up to the Everest Base Camp. The trek in itself isn’t that hard but the pattern of ascending and descending can make it tedious in a way. After just a few hours of trekking, we will reach the final settlement going forward in the region, Gorak Shep. Although only a temporary settlement, the views of Pumori, Nuptse and Everest are still decent from here.

Once we’ve had our lunch, we will begin the hike up to Everest Base Camp. The distance we need to cover here is only around 3km but trekking through the rocky trail along the glacier will certainly not be the easiest endeavor. At the Everest Base Camp, we can explore around for a bit and enjoy the superb scenery surrounding us – comprising of Nuptse, Khumbutse, Lhotse, Pumori and more while Everest is hidden away behind the ridge. After a while there, we will trek back to our lodge in Gorak Shep.

Our trek starts early in the morning as we make the 1-2 hour long hike up to Kala Patthar. As we arrive at the summit just in time for sunrise, you’ll be treated to a once in a lifetime view. As one of the best viewpoints in the Khumbu region, Kala Patthar sports a stunning panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Changtse, Cho Oyu and the Khumbu glacier. The 360 degree view of most of the region, and particularly the close up view of Everest is quite memorable. After a while there, we will retrace our steps back to our lodge in Gorak Shep.

Enjoy some warm breakfast at the lodge before beginning the usual routine of trekking. As our main goals are now accomplished, we will simply retrace our steps back to Lukla. However, this is a journey of a few days, so our first stop for overnight stay will be at Pheriche.

Another day of trekking through the tranquil rhododendron and juniper forests offers the chance to further explore the wildlife and natural beauty of the region. The trek is mostly a descent but a number of occasional ascents are also involved today. The view of Ama Dablam and Nuptse peaks is prominent on the trail today as we reach Sansa and trek around the hillside to finally reach Namche Bazaar.

Head out today for the second last day of trekking on the Everest Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek. Once again, the trail is mostly downhill with some occasional ascents. Make use of trekking poles if your knees are having a hard time today. Our overnight stay will be at the village of Phakding.

We will cross the Dudh Koshi a number of times via suspension bridges and mostly follow the same trail as the one at the start of our trek to reach Lukla. At Lukla, we can have a breath of relief and accomplishment as we have successfully completed our trek. Enjoy the final evening amidst the hills and mountains of the Everest region.

A scenic early morning flight lets us enjoy the beauty and magnificence of the Himalayas once more. After landing at the Kathmandu airport, we will drop you off at your hotel. In the afternoon, you can spend your leisure time as you prefer; resting at the hotel, exploring the capital or heading out for some last day shopping. Thamel caters to tourists of every kind and sort, from souvenirs to any other kind of shopping as well, so take a look there if you are interested.

For the last day in Kathmandu, we will go out for a sightseeing tour around the valley. As you may know, Kathmandu is a city of temples and our first location is a temple as well. Pashupatinath is a Hindu temple that is regarded as one of the most sacred in the world. If we visit during early morning hours, we can witness various rituals going on as well from the Bagmati river bank. Later in the day, we will also visit the popular Buddhist stupas of Kathmandu known as Boudhanath and Swayambhunath. If time permits, we will also spend some time at the old royal palace, Hanuman Dhoka Durbar or simple Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the evening, we will gather and go to a good local restaurant where we will enjoy traditional Nepali cuisine or something else of your choice as our farewell dinner.

Our 18 Day Gokyo Cho La Everest Base Camp Trek is officially over today. If you interested in extending your stay in Nepal or taking part in any other treks and tours, please feel free to contact us. If you have a flight scheduled, our airport representative will escort you to the Tribhuwan International Airport 3 hours prior to the flight time. Have a safe flight and farewell!
