The Kanchenjunga Trek is one of the most remote, beautiful, and rewarding trekking adventures in Nepal. Located in the far eastern Himalayas, the Kanchenjunga region offers an exceptional combination of dramatic mountain scenery, ancient forests, traditional villages, rich culture, and high-altitude wilderness.

Kanchenjunga, standing at 8,586 meters, is the third-highest mountain in the world. This remarkable trekking journey takes you deep into the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area and provides an opportunity to explore both the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp at Pangpema and the spectacular Yalung Valley on the southern side of the Kanchenjunga massif.
The trek begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, followed by a scenic drive into the hills of eastern Nepal. From Sekathum, the journey follows remote trails through lush forests, river valleys, and traditional settlements before reaching the high Himalayan landscapes of Ghunsa, Khambachen, and Lhonak.

One of the major highlights is the hike to Pangpema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp), where trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga Himalayas and surrounding glaciers. The adventure continues across the high Sele La region before descending into the beautiful Yalung Valley and visiting Oktang Viewpoint, offering magnificent views of the southern face of Kanchenjunga.

This trek is ideal for experienced and physically fit trekkers who are looking for a challenging and authentic Himalayan adventure away from crowded trekking routes.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350 m)

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, our representative will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel by private vehicle.
After checking in, you can relax and recover from your journey. In the evening, there will be a short briefing about the upcoming Kanchenjunga Trek.

Day 2 : Trek Preparation and Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing

After breakfast, we will spend the day preparing for the trek, checking trekking equipment, and arranging the necessary permits.

Depending on the available time, we will also enjoy sightseeing around some of the important cultural and historical sites of the Kathmandu Valley.

Day 3 : Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and Drive to Taplejung (1,825 m)

Early in the morning, we take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, which takes approximately 45 minutes.

After arriving in Bhadrapur, we begin our long but beautiful drive towards Taplejung, the gateway to the Kanchenjunga region. The drive takes approximately 7–8 hours, depending on road and weather conditions.

Day 4 : Drive from Taplejung to Sekathum (1,650 m)

After breakfast, we drive from Taplejung towards Sekathum. The journey follows mountain roads and passes through beautiful villages, hills, and river valleys.

The drive takes approximately 7 hours, depending on road conditions.

Day 5 : Trek from Sekathum to Amjilosa (2,500 m)

Today, we begin our trekking adventure in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. The trail follows the river valley and passes through forests, suspension bridges, and small settlements. After approximately 6 hours of trekking, we reach Amjilosa.

Day 6 : Trek from Amjilosa to Gyabla (2,725 m)

Today's trail passes through beautiful forests and remote mountain landscapes. We gradually gain altitude as we continue deeper into the Kanchenjunga region. After approximately 6 hours of trekking, we arrive at Gyabla.

Day 7 : Trek from Gyabla to Ghunsa (3,415 m)

After breakfast, we continue our trek towards the beautiful village of Ghunsa. The trail passes through forests and traditional settlements. Ghunsa is one of the important villages in the Kanchenjunga region and is surrounded by beautiful Himalayan scenery. The trek takes approximately 6 hours.

Day 8 : Trek from Ghunsa to Khambachen (4,145 m)

Today, we trek through increasingly dramatic alpine landscapes. The trail offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. After approximately 5 hours of trekking, we reach Khambachen.

Day 9 : Acclimatization and Exploration Day at Khambachen

Today is an important acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. We can take a day hike towards Nupchu Pokhari or in the direction of Jannu (Kumbhakarna) Himal Base Camp, depending on weather conditions and the group's fitness level. After exploring the surrounding area and enjoying the spectacular mountain views, we return to Khambachen.

Day 10 : Trek from Khambachen to Lhonak (4,792 m)

After breakfast, we continue our journey towards Lhonak. The trail gradually enters a high-altitude landscape with impressive views of glaciers and snow-covered peaks. The trek takes approximately 4–5 hours.

Day 11 : Day Hike to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp – Pangpema (5,140 m)

Today is one of the major highlights of the entire trek. Early in the morning, we hike towards Kanchenjunga North Base Camp, also known as Pangpema (5,140 m). The trail offers breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga massif, glaciers, and surrounding Himalayan peaks. After enjoying the magnificent scenery and taking photographs, we return to Lhonak. The complete hike takes approximately 10–11 hours.

Day 12 : Trek from Lhonak to Ghunsa (3,415 m)

After breakfast, we retrace our route downhill towards Ghunsa. The trail provides another opportunity to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and mountain scenery of the Kanchenjunga region. The trek takes approximately 6–7 hours.

Day 13 : Trek from Ghunsa to Sele La Base Camp (approximately 4,240 m)

Today, we leave Ghunsa and trek towards Sele La Base Camp. The route gradually climbs through forests and alpine landscapes. This is an important stage of the trek as we prepare to cross the high mountain passes of the Sele La region. The trek takes approximately 6 hours.

Day 14 : Cross Sele La and Trek to Tseram (3,868 m)

Today is one of the most challenging and rewarding days of the trek. We cross the high Sele La Pass region, enjoying spectacular panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga Himalayas and surrounding peaks. After crossing the pass, we descend towards Tseram. The total trekking time is approximately 6–8 hours, depending on trail and weather conditions.

Day 15 : Trek to Ramche and Hike to Oktang Viewpoint (Yalung Viewpoint)

After breakfast, we trek towards Ramche, located in the beautiful Yalung Valley. From the area, we continue towards Oktang Viewpoint, also known as the Yalung Viewpoint, where we can enjoy spectacular views of glaciers and the impressive southern side of the Kanchenjunga massif. After exploring the area, we return to Ramche. The total trekking and hiking time is approximately 7 hours.

Day 16 : Trek from Ramche to Tortong (2,980 m)

Today, we begin our descent from the high Himalayan region. The trail gradually descends through beautiful landscapes and forests towards Tortong. The trek takes approximately 7 hours.

Day 17 : Trek from Tortong to Yamphudin (1,692 m)

After breakfast, we continue descending towards Yamphudin, a beautiful village located in the lower part of the Kanchenjunga region. The trail passes through forests, rivers, and traditional settlements. The trek takes approximately 7 hours.

Day 18 : Drive from Yamphudin to Kanyam, Ilam (approximately 1,600 m)

After breakfast, we take a scenic drive from Yamphudin towards Kanyam in Ilam, a beautiful region famous for its green hills and tea gardens. After the remote mountain trekking experience, this journey offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the peaceful landscapes of eastern Nepal.

Day 19 : Drive from Kanyam to Bhadrapur and Fly to Kathmandu

After breakfast, we drive from Kanyam to Bhadrapur Airport. From Bhadrapur, we take a scenic flight back to Kathmandu, which takes approximately 45 minutes. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for relaxation, shopping, or exploring the city.

Day 20 : Final Departure

Today marks the end of your unforgettable Kanchenjunga Trek. According to your international flight schedule, our representative will transfer you from your hotel to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for your departure to your next destination.

  • Airport pickup and drop-off by private vehicle.
  • Necessary transportation from Kathmandu to the trek starting point and back, according to the itinerary.
